Mass fraction of moisture in the dry extract is not more than 10%. Mass fraction of moisture in the thick extract is not more than 50%. Mass fraction of insoluble substances in water is not more than 5%. Mass fraction of tannins in the dry extract (in terms of tannin), at least 25%. Mass fraction of tannins in the thick extract (in terms of tannin), at least 10%. Bergenia leaves contain up to 23% of tannides, and in its rhizomes up to 27%. In addition, 25-27% tannins, phenolic compounds, phenocarboxylic acids, coumarin derivative - beternine, as well as isocoumarins, catechins, starch, sugars, and mineral salts were found in rhizomes. Gallic acid, coumarins, flavonoids, vitamin C, carotene and arbutin, as well as 2-4% of free hydroquinone are found in the leaves.

Bergenia thickener preparations are used in various gastrointestinal diseases, as well as in gynecological practice as a hemostatic agent and for the treatment of a number of diseases, in particular cervical dysplasia, in the form of douching and vaginal baths. In addition, preparations from badan roots are effective for colitis, enterocolitis of non-infectious nature.
